We are a group of fun-loving gay women professionals. Our first meeting was at the Andersonville Starbucks in August 2007. Since then, we have evolved into a large, diverse group with all races and age ranges represented. The majority of our members are professionals including physicians, IT managers, veterinarians, project managers, financial analysts and many other professions. Approx. 67% of our members are single. Over 60% live in the city.
We are one of the most active groups on meetup. In 2011, we added 353 new members and our events had over 1,200 participants. At any given month, our members attend a plethora of social events in dining & entertainment, sports, arts & culture and outdoor adventures. Attendance at our events vary widely from a few to over 200. And, we rarely repeat an event format or location in the same calendar year so we can maintain a steady level of excitement and adventure.
We've created some very popular social events in our community, including Beach Mixer, Dirty Pool and Spring Fling Dance. In 2009, we created Guerrilla Girl Bar (GGB)where we will "take over" a straight venue and recontextualize the demographics of the selected business. In 2010, we introduced our first dance/fundraiser Spring Fling Dance along with Adventure Date auctions that raised over $2,000 for Habitat for Humanity Haiti Earthquake Relief Funds. Over 220 women attended the event. Our first food drive at the end of year raised over 200 pounds of food for the Chicago Food Depository. We also organized our first international trip (Costa Rica). To fully explain our purpose and mission, there are a few things we would like to clarify. We are a social networking group, but we are not a dating service. We frequent local businesses, shows and performances, but our group is not to be used as a promotional vehicle for any specific group. We support many GLBT causes, but we are not a policy advocacy or coming out support group or political organization. There are many organizations that are already established for those purposes. We believe in low-key, fun social events developed for gay women professionals, which we feel are strongly needed by and beneficial to our community. This will continue to be our focus.
There are no membership dues to join our group and to participate in our group's activities. However, we accept donations of any amount to cover meetup.com monthly fees and pre-pay for some events.
Come and join us! We are all about having fun while supporting each other's professional and personal growth!
